Total Time 20 Minutes

Mulled Wine Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry red wine like Cabernet Sauvignon
  • ½ cup brandy (nothing fancy)
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • ½ cup fresh cranberries (halved)
  • ½ cup blackberries
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole allspice
  • 4 whole black peppercorns
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • Additional blackberries, cranberries, and/or sliced orange for serving

Directions

Stovetop

  1. Combine all ingredients in a non-aluminum pot or saucepan set over medium heat.
  2. Gently bring the wine to a very low simmer over medium-low heat. Keep an eye on it and do not boil, as this will cook off the alcohol.
  3. Heat for approximately 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. To serve, carefully ladle the mulled wine into cups, leaving spices behind, and garnish with orange slices and/or berries. Note: You can re-use the spices for other uses!

Slow Cooker

  1. Add all ingredients to a 4-quart slow cooker.
  2. Cover and set your slow cooker to LOW.
  3. Warm for approximately 1 hour.
  4. Ladle into glasses leaving behind any spices and garnish as desired.
