Reddit Murder Cookies

It’s funny how a search on the internet can take on a life of it’s own. A Reddit user looking into a murder that took place in their home got carried away and several hours later found that a neighbor in 1930’s worked in a bakery and this cookie recipe was their recipe of the year. The cookies were quickly dubbed “Murder Cookies” and while we wouldn’t say they were “to die for”, they’re quite good.

Ingredients for Secret Scotch Cookies

• 1 ½ cups sugar
• 1 cup shortening
• ½ cup molasses
• 1 egg
• 3 ½ cups flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 ½ teaspoons baking soda
• 1 teaspoon mace
• ¼ cup milk

Murder Cookie Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
2. Cream sugar, shortening, molasses and egg until light and creamy.
3. Sift dry ingredients and beat into the mixture along with the milk.
4. Drop by tablespoonful onto greased baking sheets.
5. Press down lightly with the bottom of a floured glass.
6. Bake for 12 minutes, making sure they don’t brown on the bottom.
